Got a Fritz!box yesterday but I cant even get the past the first step of setup...
It won't 'syncronise' (?) with my broadband. I was up all night trying all kinds of configurations... but in the end I think there is a fundamental incompatibility... The DSL-in socket on the Fritz uses on 2 cores/pins (4&5), but my broadband uses 4 cores/pins... The Broadband is a wireless antenna from Net1 and works fine plugged straight into the computer's Ethernet Adaptar Card. Is the Fritz!box not suitable for this type setup? or is there is another solution other than trying to return the hardware? Any help Appreciated

Hi Closov,
You won't be able to use the DSL modem in the FritzBox with your Net1 wireless broadband connection. The wireless modem you've got from Net1 is the only thing that will be able to take the physical signal from your wireless receiver and convert it into an Ethernet signal. The FritzBox can do the same thing for a DSL signal, from an Eircom line, but it knows nothing about wireless protocols and signals. You do need to return the hardware and get a ATA/Router combo without an inbuilt DSL modem. Aaron |

Well I'd recommend the Netgear TA612V as being the best value for money. It has the built in rotuer/ATA combo which is what you need.
It is worth noting it does have one Ethernet port so you can only connect one PC to it without another switch. Also while it has two phone ports it only has the option to specify one SIP server so both ports must be used with the same provider. These two things don't cause any problems for most people but it is worth noting them when considering what you need. |

Unfortuantly the Netgear one wasn't an option when I returned the Fritz!box, as the dealer didnt stock them. I really need to go wireless anyway. I ended up getting a D-Link router which seems to be working fine, and this phone.
Will try and set it up tonight with the Free Trial.. unless an order for a full account can be processed by then? :P |
