Default Linksys SPA2102 config.

Hi,

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction to configure a D-Link 320T modem and Linksys SPA2102 (ATA + router). Here's what I have done so far:

1. Left the D-Link 320T modem at factory preset configuration and plugged it into my wired network via an ethernet switch. The modem handles DHCP duties with a range of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 (D-Link IP is 192.168.1.1). Sub/net 255.255.255.0

2. My PC connected to the network is set to "obtain IP address automatically" and it can see the internet fine via the modem.

3. My problem occurs when configuring the SPA2102. It's default IP address is 192.168.0.1. I can see the web config screen when I attached it directly to my PC ethernet port.

4. I have spent all afternoon playing with various configs, including fixed IP address schemes, but have finally admitted defeat!!!

Can anyone make suggestions as to what config I should put on the SPA2102 so that it works with the D-Link modem and the rest of my network. Searches on the internet indicate I may be going wrong as follows:

i) DHCP can't run on both the modem and ATA/router so which one should I turn it off on;

ii) Should I just turn off DHCP altogether on both devices and go with a fixed IP address scheme (i.e. D-Link = 192.168.0.1, SPA2102 = 192.168.0.2, PC = 192.168.0.3, etc)?

iii) What Default Gateway do I use for all the devices. I had assumed it was just the modem IP address but I think there is more to it than that;

iv) The Blueface help section has confused me slightly. The config for the Linksys PAP2 (http://www.blueface.ie/support/pap2.aspx) says that the MWI & CMWI serv. defaults should be set to "No" but the config for the Linksys RT31P2 (http://www.blueface.ie/support/linksys.aspx) doesn't mention those those settings at all.

HELP!

Regards,

Andy

(ps. I would have bought a "one-box" solution but have ended up with this set-up unfortunately!)

You can run DHCP on both devices, although you may hit firewall issues. Technically this is how your PC connects to your router, DHCP to DHCP (unless you actually have ISP static IP address??)

You are on the right direction with a fixed IP.
Leave DHCP turned on on the router and follow the guide at this link http://forums.blueface.ie/showthread.php?t=338 to configure a static IP router for your SPA2102 and enable Port Forwarding.

Run a DOS window on your PC when connected to the router and take note of the Subnet Mask and Default gateway by entering "ipconfig". Use these addresses when configuring the static route with the SPA2102.

The reason for the suggestions on disabling the MWI & CMWI feature is because users with PAP2's can find that they start getting calls every hour in the middle of the night just to tell them there is a voicemail there. This is less frequent on the RT31.

Thanks for the reply,

I ended up just buying a Draytek 2800V combined ADSL modem/router/ATA as it has some VPN features I may need.

After talking to a few techie people about my D-link/Linksys setup, I have come to the conclusion the buggers just don't want to communicate. Must be something to do with my set-up but I couldn't afford to waste any more time on it.

Made my first VoIp call about an hour ago....bliss!
