Default SPA9000 Last Cry for HELP

Hi all,

i have been suffering setting up the linksys PBX with 2 linksys phones and linking them to bluefaces services.

( previous post:
http://forums.blueface.ie/showthread.php?t=321)

i have now done up a detailed short report of the network setup and PBX setup.
http://www.williamfitzgerald.org/blueface/blueface.html
http://www.williamfitzgerald.org/blu...aNetConfig.pdf

can anyone out there help me solve my issues.

i have a sneaky feeling i messed up the DNS entries but then again i was able to make calls for a day or so until the PBX crashed.

i thought it was the my server hogging the network so i disabled it getting internet access on saturday but on sunday morning i observed the router and PBX lights flashing constantly when i was unable to make calls.

please help,

regards,
Will.

I would turn back on the internet access for your server. Is it SBS 2000, or 2003?

The pbx and phones are going to need static ip addresses. You can set the dns server to be your SBS server - 192.168.1.20.

I run DCHP from my sbs server I would recommend this instaed of using your router. I used resevered IP addresses for both the SPA9000 and the SPA942's, this way I can leave the ip settings on each device to DCHP.

Then just run the wizard on the pbx, and then on each phone.

It might be worth your while resetting your phone and pbx to factory default, and work from there.

Hi Aob,

i will do this on friday night when i go back to Cavan.

its a brand new dell power edge so i am almost certain its a SBS 2003. and its the standard edition.

PBX and Phone install:
run wizard and do factory reset on phones and PBX.
during wizard i will be asked if i want to give the PBX a static IP. so i will say yes.

is this ok:
static PBX IP: 192.168.1.21
netwmask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.1.1 = router IP
DNS prim: 192,168.1.20 = server IP
DNS sec: 192.168.1.1 = router IP or do i leave it blank?

Now the phones are not prompted for a static IP via the wizard so i can login via the web interface. then select a static IP outside the DHCP range and have the same gateway and DNS as set on the PBX. yes?

SBS DHCP and DNS:
during SBS initial install i was prompted to set the server as SBS but i said no allowing the router to do this. so now i will need to turn it on again.

can you point me in the correct direction to turn on DHCP on server?

in the DLINK G624T router there is an option to turn off DHCP.

is it still ok to have the router default gateway as 192.168.1.1 or will the server want to take this address?

the router currently automatically finds 2 public DNS IP address of Digiweb.
when i turn off DHCP will it still do so? so that the server will know to route to the router and the router route to the public DNS IP's.

i am not sure if i would have to put the router in bridge mode or anything like that.

i will run the internet SBS wizard and i will be prompted for DNS entries.
what ip would i place in here? the IP address of the router (default gateway 192.168.1.1)?

I presume the default gateway of the server will remain as the ip address of the router.

regards,
Will.

This is fine, I have the second dns blank, but it should be fine as the router

If DCHP is installed you just need to go to administratve tools -> DHCP, set a scope then authorise the DCHP server. If it's not in there, you'll need to install it, via Windows Components, Network Services

Turn this off, you ca only have one DHCP server.

Yes this is fine as it is.

When you turn off DCHP on the LAN side of the router, if won't affect DHCP on the WAN side, which is client only.

No, you won't have to do this.

Thanks Aob, i am really starting to get to grips with this.

i PM'd you as i feel this is starting to be more on the SBS side of things.

for others just tuning in, don't worry. i will provide a proper tutorial on my PBX and SBS settings once i get up and running.

regards,
Will.

To correct what I posted earlier, this should not be the address of the router it should be the ip address of the SBS server - 192.168.1.20.
