Default SPA9000 which PBX port to use with the router

conflicting diagrams.

one says its fine to have WAN port on PBX plugged into a router (my setup) or switch and the other says have the LAN port of PBX plugged into router or switch!!

does it matter?

They are not conflicting as both have the WAN port plugged into a network that can reach the internet. In boths examples if you reversed the WAN and Ethernet ports your calls would not work as the SPA9000 would not be able to reach the internet.

It doesn't matter if there are additional routers or swtiches in between the WAN port and the internet (one way audio problems due to NAT aside). The key point is that the Ethernet/PC interface gets connected to your private network and the WAN port gets connected to the part of your network that connects to your broadband modem.
