Wink Cordless(DECT) Phone & ATA Ringing Issues

Some people tend to experience ringing issues when using certain cordless (DECT) phones with a VoIP ATA. The problems experienced can be:

1. When a call comes through on the ATA, the phone does not ring. But if the handset is picked up, the call can be connected

2. When a call comes through on the ATA, the phone rings, but when the handset is picked up, the caller still hears a ringing tone, and the call is not connected

Two solutions have been found that have solved the majority of these issues:

1. When purchasing a DECT phone from a shop, they can often be United Kingdom based shops and hence UK based phones. Most telephone handsets designed for the UK use a capacitor in British Telecom linebox. To enable ring function to operate in European Countries you require ring capacitor. A ring capacitor is a small phone cable adapter (see below picture).

What some people have been found to be doing is instead of using the cable + converter that came with the phone, they use their current standard European cable which looks the same, but is missing elements. A cable with only 2 wires inside will not normally function correctly.
So if you find that you are experiencing these issues, you have either not used the supplied cable, or may be just using the incorrect format specified for your phone, and should try the alternative phone cable.

2. If using a Linksys/Sipura PAP2 device, or any Linksys ATA, and you experience the above mentioned issues, you can make the following changes to fix the ringing issue:

1. Login to your PAP2 by following the steps from the link below:

http://www.blueface.ie/support/pap2.aspx

2. Click on "admin login" from right hand side top corner.
3. Switch to "advanced view"
4. Click on "regional" and then click on "waveform"
5. Choose one of them, you can try with both (sinusoid, trapezoid).
6. Save the settings and reboot the device
